How Long Can a WhatsApp Status Video Be

June 24, 2026

Before posting a clip to WhatsApp Status, it helps to know the length limit — otherwise the messenger may trim or split your video in a way you didn't expect.

Maximum status video length

A single WhatsApp status segment is limited to about 30 seconds. If the video is longer, WhatsApp will either offer to trim it or split it into several separate status segments shown back to back.

What happens to a long video

  • Short (up to ~30 sec) — posted as a single segment.
  • Long — split into ~30-second parts, so viewers have to tap through to see all of it.
  • Trimming it by hand inside WhatsApp often compresses the video further — you lose sharpness.
The length limit can't be bypassed — it's part of status itself. But you can prepare a clip of the right length in the right format so it isn't recompressed.

How to post without quality loss

Besides length, status has a compression problem: WhatsApp lowers resolution and bitrate. MiStatus trims the video to 30 seconds in advance and converts it to the status format (1080p, the right frame rate and bitrate) so the messenger passes the clip through without downgrading quality.

Upload your video on mistatus.ru or in the @mi_status_bot Telegram bot, get the finished clip right inside WhatsApp, and forward it to your status from the chat. The first 3 videos are free.
